Be the change (Part II)

I recently finished my first volunteer assignment with the NPO I mentioned a few posts back.  There were times it seemed challenging. I was to meet with a cancer survivor, at the cancer treatment center, along with the director of the center to gather photos and information for the press release I was creating. Walking into that center was like walking into a wall. Painful. I have watched too many people I love die from cancer and cancer related illness. At first, it was very difficult for me to stay mindful because the memories of my lost loved ones flooded my mind. But, as soon as I met with the survivor and director I felt so much better. They were kind, gentle, fun and warm. It became a very pleasurable experience and I hope that it helped to facilitate healing within all of us.

It was a piece of cake to write the press release after seeing what a difference this organization has made in the lives of these women. And it encouraged me to keep at it and to continue to support others who are doing the best they can with what they have, to make the world a better place.
